- =======================================================================
- USER RIGHTS AND GUARANTEES
- =======================================================================
-
- Contrary to most traditional IRC networks, on the Cryto IRC network,
- the rights that users have are considered more important than the rules
- they have to follow. As such, the following has been established:
-
- Unless a user or channel is a threat to the network or other users or
- channels that do not choose to be involved in the problematic user's
- business, network operators will not involve themselves into channel
- business. This means you are free to use your channel in a manner that
- you wish, as long as the few network-wide rules that exist are followed.
- We do not impose restrictions on discussion topics, channel moderation,
- bot policy, etc.
-
- Confidential user information (such as IP addresses) will not be
- released to anyone other than network operators under any circumstances.
- Basic obfuscation of your IP address / hostname is in place, in the form
- of partial hostmask scrambling (keep in mind that your ISP is still
- visible).
-
- Network operators do not get involved in channel access conflicts, such
- as disagreement between channel operators or disagreement with the
- channel owner, unless explicitly requested by the user that is
- registered with ChanServ as the channel owner.
-
- Network-wide bans are only put in place if a client is threatening the
- network or its users without being a direct result of predictable
- actions taken by those users. This means that while for example NickServ
- impersonators, intentional user impersonators, botfloods, and malware
- spreaders are banned from the network, action will likely not be taken
- against a small flood in a channel that did something to cause that
- flood themselves.
-
- Network operators will respect channel modes and not enter private
- channels unless there is a reason to suspect they put the network or its
- operators into danger. If this were to happen, the reason for entry will
- be stated directly after entering the channel.
-
- Network operators, in channel business, do not have any status over
- 'regular' users. They can be kicked and banned from a channel as any
- other users when they do not honour the rules of a channel. If a network
- operator is present for network-related business, he will always clearly
- state his reasons.
-
- Simply put, your channel is your business and we do not get involved
- unless we have a solid reason to do so, as stated above.
-
-
- =======================================================================
- NETWORK-WIDE RULES
- =======================================================================
-
- Do not do anything that can get the network into trouble. If you attract
- DDoS, get leafs shut down, or get network operators into trouble (or are
- reasonably expected to do so), you're likely to get a polite request to
- make yourself or your channel scarce. Don't try to, for example, run
- LOIC operations, botnets, or warez/childporn trading channels from the
- Cryto IRC network. If you think your channel may cause other people
- problems, it's probably not a good idea to set it up. When in doubt, ask
- a network operator (use the !staff command in any channel to receive a
- list of currently available network operators).
-
- Obviously, do not attack the Cryto IRC network. If you have a conflict
- with someone on the Cryto IRC network, try to talk it out with them
- first. If you believe the conflict is related to the entire network,
- pick it up with a network operator; we're always willing to discuss real
- issues, no matter what it's about. We don't run this network to get it
- attacked, we run it to offer a friendly place, especially for those that
- tend to get thrown out on other networks because of stereotyped views or
- unjust judgments.
-
- Bots are welcome, as long as they do not harm the network or its
- operators in any way. Individual channels may have their own policies.
-
- Follow channel policies. If a channel owner does not feel he has to
- impose rules on the users of his channel, he will tell you so.
- Otherwise, it's his channel and you'll have to follow his rules.
-
-
- =======================================================================
- REGARDING "FAMILY-FRIENDLINESS"
- =======================================================================
-
- The Cryto IRC network does not aim to conform to a specific set of
- guidelines that would allegedly be 'family-friendly'. While individual
- channels may have their own rules, we cannot guarantee any particular
- environment that exists network-wide.
-
- Additionally, if you are a concerned parent, consider whether you
- *really* want to shield off your child from what the real world is like,
- as it will likely only serve to cause a bigger shock when (s)he steps
- into reality. Maybe it's a better idea to just let them explore and ask
- questions, to understand the real world, rather than fearing it.
-
- =======================================================================
- REGARDING ANONYMOUS
- =======================================================================
-
- While the Cryto IRC network is home to some Anonymous-related channels,
- it is in no way an 'Anonymous network', and was in fact not even set up
- with Anonymous in mind. These channels are simply channels that happen
- to exist, just as any other user-created channel would. They have the
- same freedoms as any other users on the network have, and have to stick
- to the same rules/guidelines as other users on the network have to stick
- to. Especially the first network rule applies here; things like LOIC
- operations are not welcome on the Cryto IRC network.
