Sporadic connection problems...
Through the change to the new IP address netsplit's IRC spider has
currently problems to establish connections to a few IRC
networks. These problems occur in combination of the new IP address
where IRC spider's connection attempts come from and the usage of
the TOR blacklist that is used to prevent IRC networks from
malicious connections. This combination results in error messages
like...
"TOR Server or Network detected - see http://www.sectoor.de/tor.php for more information."
I contacted the provider of the TOR blacklist to call
attention to this problem and got some helpful information.
Our new IP address is in the same subnet (/24) with an IP address
that is marked as TOR server, but as on the
TOR homepage
stated, nobody should use type 2 as ban type. There are
a few configuration errors which may lead to banning type 2:
| 1. | BOPM with type 2 specified |
| 2. | BOPM with "ban_unknown = yes" specified |
| 3. | OPSB (unable to check the reply). |
For all those problems a solution exist:
| 1. | don't specify type 2 |
| 2. | set ban_unknown = no |
| 3. | use exitnodes.tor.dnsbl.sectoor.de instead of tor.dnsbl.sectoor.de |
Please see also the dnsbl-announce list at http://lists.sectoor.de/archives/dnsbl-announce/2006-02/0002.html!

IRC spider's IP address has changed...
Today netsplit's IRC spider was moved to the new server. So the
IP address that the spider is connecting from has changed from
62.26.123.29 to 85.25.141.52!

irc.netsplit.de is getting a new home...
After three and a half years netsplit's current hosting agreement is
near its end, but I'm very glad to be able to announce that this
website will stay alive. As you can see in the header there's a
cooperation running with Germany's largest seller for IRC bouncers.
I think this is right time and place to thank
Bouncer4You, because this
cooperation allows me to continue with this kind of IRC service.
In consequence of this move the ip-address that is used for netsplit's
IRC spider will also change. All IRC admins that have configured
a special invite line for netsplit's IRC spider should follow this
change to ip-address 85.25.141.52 during the next days!

Upgrade of the new backend is nearly finished...
During the last weeks I finally found some time to work on long
outstanding tasks to improve the features and the performance of
irc.netsplit.de. In consequence of the new database structure the
content was also modified a little. I'm not completely finished
yet, but I decided to make the new content already available for
you. Please let me know if you find something that doesn't
correctly work yet!
