- * Need a registered nickname to join a channel? *
- There is a channel mode (+R) which requires you to have a registered
- nickname to join a channel.
-
- As many of you are surely aware, Austnet has had some major
- changes recently, the latest of these changes are updates to
- our website, services and IRCD software running on our servers
- to fix a number of bugs and add much needed features.
-
- We are also pleased to announce the long awaited implementation
- of user and channel mode +R for everyone's benefit. When set on
- a channel only users with registered nicknames are able to join
- that channel. We expect this mode will be widely used within
- channels on the network and expect it to almost entirely solve
- the private query spam problems.
-
- Once you REGISTER a nickname, you need to IDENTIFY as it to be
- recognised as the owner of that nickname. Once you IDENTIFY, you
- will be allowed in these channels.
-
- We'll be continuing to implement many additional features over
- the coming months in an effort to improve the services offered
- to users on Austnet.
-
- For more information or to remain informed on future updates,
- please see http://www.austnet.org
